I actually can’t believe I am writing this but I am now just under 12 weeks out from my first ever bikini competition 🙀
I wanted somewhere I could document my fitness journey to the stage so I can look back at it in the future 🙂 And I am thinking when times get tough and I am hungry, I can sit and write a blog post to distract me 😹
I toyed with the idea of “Vlogging” but I’m not too sure whether you are all ready for my monotone voice 😹 and my OH might kill me if I add making videos of me to the list of things he does for me already, bless him!
Lots of people have commented on my motivation and dedication to the gym lately so I thought this would be a good place to start blogging!
The Power of “Why”
I honestly believe you only stay fully focused on something when your reason why for doing something is really strong.
For example, why do we all get up and go to work every day? ….. because we have the reason that we need to pay bills and buy food.
One of my friends has just set up her own beauty business at home, and her reason why is to be able to spend more time at home with her children!
Another friend worked her bum off to get a job as an air hostess because her reason why is to be able to travel the world!
A work colleague has lost an amazing three stone, her reason why is to look fabulous in her wedding dress!
When you have a reason behind something it helps to drive you towards your goal!
My reasons why
- I turn 30 this year
Age really is just a number but I am turning 30 next month 🙀
I did the standard thing of trying to come up with a list of things I would like to achieve before I turn 30!
For those of you who have followed me for a while, you will be aware that I have been into fitness and bodybuilding since 2011. I have been to countless shows year in year out and have always had this little dream in my head that I would love to compete.
(Body Power 2012)
I have seen girls become interested in competing long after I became interested and they managed to transform their bodies and compete whilst I was still stuck in a rut!
After watching the UKBFF finals in October last year, I knew I wanted to put my head down and grind and finally make this dream a reality before I got older and perhaps had other things in my life that I would need to prioritise!
I have enjoyed every step of the way so far and love setting myself a challenge!
- Being Vegan
I have a really strong desire to prove to people that you can gain muscle and lose fat whilst living a Vegan lifestyle!
Yes we are all vegan athletes haha!
I am not a typical animal activist that marches down the streets with a placard telling people to go vegan but I like to think I have a gentle influence on people to encourage them to try a more plant based products.
I would love to be able to show people a good body is achievable whilst being Vegan! I think most people’s stereotype of Vegans is that we are all skinny and weedy!
- Fitness is a privilege
After my accident a few years ago and being told I would never be able to use my left hand ever again, I truly feel blessed every day to even be able to train 💖 Weight lifting lights my fire inside and makes me feel great!
Fitness is a choice, if it’s not your thing you don’t have to do it but when it is your passion and you have that taken away from you, it really makes me feel grateful I am able to do what I love!
- Support and Timing
So you might be wondering why I never competed before if I have been interested for so long! I won’t beat myself up and be negative, there have been many reasons.
Sometimes you are not in a position to make fitness and diet your priority and thats totally Ok. Training for a competition is completely different to normal training and takes up a lot of time!
In the past I have had jobs that required me to work long hours or I have been studying for my degree or just enjoyig time with my friends. I am not saying I couldn’t of prepped then, if I really wanted to nothing would have stopped me! But my head was never 100 percent in the game and I was just enjoying that stage in my life.
In the past I have always had supportive boyfriends but I truly believe your partner has to fully understand what you are trying to achieve. I am totally blessed to have found my OH, he doesn’t compete himself but he moves mountains to help me in any way he can. Whether that be driving me to posing lessons, staying an extra hour in the gym to make sure I finish my session, taking my weekly check in photos and missing out on date nights to restaurants!
I always dreaded stepping on stage and being that person that no one cheered for but the amount of support I have now from friends, work colleagues and even stranger friends on social media makes me feel so warm and loved inside!
I also have the best coach and am part of the best team Showgirlfitness!
So I am not only doing it for me, I am doing it for the people who support me and to make them proud of me!
Remember even if you have the strongest reason why in the whole wide world, there will be days where you do not always feel motivated, that is completely normal but staying CONSISTENT is what counts!
I would love to hear your reasons why, whether its fitness, career, family, health related, let me know 🙂
